Course Outline
The Bridge & Gantry course is designed for operators who use equipment to sling, lift, move & lower equipment within a workshop setting.
The Bridge & Gantry competencies consist of:
- Plan and prepare for lifting operations
- Prepare loads to lift in accordance with gantry crane limitations & rigging requirements
- Perform pre-start, start-up, park-up & shutdown procedures
- Confirm work area hazards & remove or control prior to commencing the lift
- Interpret signals in accordance with AS2550
- Operate controls to lift, transfer and lower loads
- Monitor lift operations and ensure compliance
Face to face classroom delivery will be used to facilitate the underpinning knowledge requirements with practical hands on use of the equipment in a simulated environment.
Each course is contextualised in conjunction with the client using client equipment, operating environment, procedures and processes.
Assessment
Both theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
Students who require extra time will be given a logbook to log lifting events under the supervision of a licensed Dogger or Rigger until they feel ready for assessment.
On successful completion participants receive an electronic Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.
Who Should Attend?
Persons who work in an environment where mechanical lifting gear is used in day to day operations of the business.
Legislation / Compliance
There are certain things an unlicensed worker can and cannot do when it comes to rigging, lifting and moving loads. This course will address the legal compliance on the subject.
Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no provisions for recognition of prior learning for the training.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication.
Examples of LLN requirements participants will need to demonstrate include:
- Access, interpret & apply gantry crane operation documentation
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify & confirm work requirements
- Identify & address potential risks, hazards & environmental issues
- Implement control measures
- Use of personal protective equipment
- Coordinate activities with others
- Process written records
