Course Outline
This course is designed to prepare a worker to demonstrate appropriate electrical safety and technical knowledge relating to types of work and equipment use near live electrical apparatus.
Completion of this course alone does not entitle you to work as an authorised person without the written approval of the person in control of the job.
On completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate underpinning knowledge and a skill level necessary to safely work near live electrical apparatus including:
- Obligations of employers, self employed persons and employees under the Electrical Safety Act and Regulations, Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Electrical Safety Code of Practice
- Identifying hazards when working near live electrical parts
- Suitable work environment, facilities, equipment and materials to safely undertake actual work near live electrical apparatus
- Determination of exclusion zones for various activities
- Emergency procedures
Assessment
Theory and practical assessments will be conducted throughout the course.
On successful completion participants receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Persons who are non-electrical and construction workers that work or supervise work around and near live electrical apparatus.

Recognition of Prior Learning
There are no provisions for recognition of prior learning for the training.
Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN)
To complete this course successfully, participants need to have reasonably well developed skills in areas such as reading, writing and communication. Examples of activities that participants will need to perform include:
- Risk management processes
- Interpret Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice
- Use of work permits and/or authorisation permits
